Dominik Moll directs this Gothic melodrama based on the classic 1796 novel by Matthew Lewis. Vincent Cassel stars as Ambrosio, a devout monk widely known for his inspirational preachings, who has spent his entire life within the monastery walls after being left on the monks' doorstep as a baby. Now taking his vows as an adult, Ambrosio is highly respected by his brothers at the monastery and the surrounding village. But not long before a new arrival joins the order, a recurring dream begins to torment him, and his once-ordered life veers into unexpected and dangerous territory...
