Gillian Anderson stars in this adaptation of Edith Wharton's classic novel directed by Terence Davies. In New York City at the dawn of the 20th century, Lily Bart (Anderson) is a young woman looking to make a good marriage. She loves Lawrence Seldon (Eric Stoltz) but he is far from wealthy. As she considers other suitors she faces betrayal and exile from society and is forced to make a desperate decision about her future. The cast also includes Dan Aykroyd, Laura Linney and Anthony LaPaglia.
