Charles Milner had a crucial role as the radio operator of MTB 718 and served in her during a year and a half of intense operations towards the end of the Second World War. He was part of a closely-knit and keenly-honed team and MTB 718 was one of the most successful and well-known Coastal Forces vessels of the war. She undertook a series of daring, vital clandestine operations along the coastlines of enemy-held northern France and Norway, invariably at night and usually right under the noses of the Germans. Charles Milner paints a vivid picture of life on board and provides detailed, first-hand accounts of many highly dangerous, vital operations. The story of MTB718 and its numerous clandestine and special operations during World War 2. Written by former crewmen, it provides great detail of operations from France to Norway, including those from Lerwick. It includes the wartime diary of a schoolboy Wibby Leask, which details all observed RN and Norwegian MTB movements in Lerwick in 1942-1945. MTB 718 was a modified Fairmile D type with no torpedo tubes, additional surf boats and powerful gun armament.
