Register
This page is for people who are not members. You can also join by popping in to the library, if you want to get your library card right away.
Who can join the library?
If you live in Shetland you can join by filling in our online form. If you are under 16, your parent or guardian should complete the ‘Guarantor details’ part of the online application. Note that most school pupils may already be members through our school libraries.
Once you have completed the online joining form
You will get an email confirming you are registered as an eServices member and will be able to use our digital services, including eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks and Newsbank. This membership is valid for three months.
Please be sure to keep a note of the PIN you choose when you register, and the membership number you are emailed.
Upgrade to a full library membership
Visit the Library and tell staff that you have registered online. Bring along some ID that features your name and address. (Contact us if you have difficulty visiting.)
You will then be issued with a library card. As well as digital services, you will then be able to access all our other services, including borrowing physical books and using library computers. (If you are under 16 and wish to use our computers, your parent or guardian must visit to sign a permission form.)
Ready to get started?
Please agree to the following conditions of membership before continuing to the registration form. More information about joining and using the Library is on our website.
I agree to take good care of items borrowed, and return them on time
I agree to treat other customers and staff with respect
I may be required to pay for items I have lost or damaged
If I change my name, address or email, or lose my card, I will notify the library as soon as possible
To use public library computers, I must agree to the Shetland Library Acceptable Use Policy, and have permission from a parent or guardian if I am under 16.
